Program Director, Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. We received initial accreditation from the ACGME in April 2022 and proudly welcomed our inaugural class in July 2022. We are looking for the ideal candidates to help create and shape the future of our new residency program. There will be three residents per year in our four-year program. We are thrilled to educate future OB/GYN physicians to care for the women of our communities. In Riverside County, women are currently facing a critical shortage of OB/GYN physicians. Our residents will be primarily based out of Southwest Healthcare Rancho Springs Hospital in Murrieta and Corona Regional Medical Center in Corona with a few sub-specialty rotations in the surrounding areas. They will work closely with the OB/GYN private community physicians in their offices and in our UHS hospital operating rooms and labor and delivery units, as well as in the emergency departments and throughout the hospitals to provide comprehensive women’s healthcare.

The mission of our program is to provide superior education and develop resilient physicians who will provide professional, compassionate, high-quality obstetric and gynecologic healthcare for women. The program strives to train future physician leaders to care for the women of our community.

Our program features:

  • Faculty with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds who are eager to teach our residents.
  • A strong emphasis on resident wellness preparing our residents to practice effectively to balance the demands of work and their home and personal lives.
  • Hospital staff engaged in support of the training OB/GYN physicians.
  • Training in multiple settings throughout the area to prepare residents for practice in the community.
  • A two-month ambulatory rotation during 4th year to allow residents to practice in the community, potentially starting to build a patient base for practice.

Our curriculum includes inpatient obstetric care; comprehensive gynecologic care in the office, hospital, and operating rooms; ambulatory training in private clinics, continuity clinic, and the outpatient surgery center; and sub-specialty experiences including gynecologic oncology, outpatient and inpatient maternal fetal medicine, urogynecology, family planning and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
